Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar And Ananya Panday Talk About How Emotional Infidelity Can Be As Bad As Physical Cheating. We Agree.
As much as I believe in monogamy and loyalty, I feel that infidelity is not as rare as I used to think it was. Earlier, it was black-and-white for me; people who cheat are terrible human beings, I used to believe. I thought it was rare that people betrayed the trust of their partner and even those who did, the cheating was always physical. And then I grew up. What I realised is that when people cheat, it’s often emotional! The reason, I am talking about emotional infidelity today is that Pati Patni Aur Woh starring Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday highlights just that. In fact, recently, the cast sat down for an interview with Zoom TV and discussed the subject – and I feel their views were on point!
So when Kartik was asked if he has been attracted to someone else while in a relationship, he said he has! “I have been in a relationship and I have got attracted to someone else? Yes, I have,” revealed Aaryan. At this point, Ananya gave him a stink eye, probably because she was surprised with his casual approach to a subject like cheating. She asked him to be more specific and Kartik explained, “I mean, attraction always need not be that you walk away from your relationship and move on with that certain someone.”

While Kartik could have been clearer (not like it’s our business but hey curiosity kills the cat!), thankfully Ananya added, “You can find other people cute.” Bhumi agreed to her stance saying, “Ya, it need not be always infidelity.” We have evolved as lovers and rules of loyalty have become more lenient. It’s natural to feel a slight attraction for people but it becomes cheating only when you pursue that feeling. Maybe a lot of us don’t admit to it, even to ourselves that we find someone attractive but hey, if you were single and they’d want to kiss you, you’d probably have gone with it. So the attraction is sometimes there and we overlook it, rightly so.
But emotional cheating doesn’t involve simply finding someone else cute. It’s when you start developing an emotional connection with another person, and to an extent that it starts affecting your relationship with your partner. Some people, like Kartik’s character in Pati Patni Aur Woh, Chintoo Tyagi intend to develop a relationship with the person they have been emotionally involved with. But a lot of times, people don’t even realise when they end up emotionally cheating on their partner, with someone who was supposed to be a “friend.”

We justify that as long as we are not getting physically intimate, it’s all okay – it’s probably just friendship. However, emotional infidelity says a lot about your relationship with your partner. It kind of exposes the loopholes and the fact that somewhere you aren’t satisfied. Or maybe you’re just being a dick. During the interview, Ananya emphasised that they are not pro emotional cheating. Kartik added, “Emotional cheating should never be the case. Physical cheating too shouldn’t be the case. But emotional is worse. So in attraction, it isn’t a cheating because you feel she’s cute then it’s okay. It’s better if it doesn’t go beyond that.”

In Pati Patni Aur Woh, Chintoo (Kartik) is never involved with anyone physically but develops an emotional attraction towards another woman. Of course, that is not taken well by his wife and she devises a revenge plan. Either ways, both acts of cheating are very damaging.
