Kangana Ranaut Says Jayalalitha Was Glamorous, Like Aishwarya Rai. We Think Kangana Is Glam Too

Bollywood is a lot of things, and despite the popular opinion of people in and outside the industry, what it is most often is, misunderstood. It is true that most publications run on the gossip they procure about Bollywood’s who’s who, but in an attempt to fix themselves with some meaty gossip, it ends up reducing the industry to a playground of animosity and cattiness, which it is, but not always. Especially now when there seems to be a sense of camaraderie amongst most of them. so they are appreciative. It’s no longer a space where they have to bring anyone else down to lift themselves. A spirit we’ve recently seen in Kangana Ranaut as well, as she confidently and with great regard, spoke highly of Aishwarya Rai in a conversation about beauty and glamour.

As Kangana Ranaut gears up for her upcoming movie Thalaivi, which is a biopic of Jayalalitha – the actress turned politician who served as the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for over 6 six times in a span of 14 years. A vision in herself, Jayalalitha was an enigma, charming her audiences, on the screen and off it. And for the most part, Kangana Ranaut seems apt for this role – she’s got the chops and the charm to pull it off.

However, seems like the Manikarnika actress begged to differ when it came to drawing parallels about the kind of personality the two shared. Talking about how she found Jayalalitha to be more glamorous than her self, Kangana Ranaut said, “Jayalalithaa was definitely not like me. She was a more glamorous star. Somebody like Aishwarya Rai in Bollywood. It was a very big challenge to fit into those shoes because I’m not known as a glamorous star.” A point that we probably don’t entirely agree with, considering Kangana Ranaut has been the kind of an actress who has managed to pick roles from that of a supermodel in Fashion to a freedom fighter in Manikarnika, and delivered on them.

Continuing further, Kangana also ended up mentioning a few similarities that she shared with Jayalalitha and said, “She was a very reluctant actor. It is the same with me. I never wanted to be an actor, and that is why we became very unusual actors.” Opening up more on this, she said, “I think she always felt that she was worth much more than just being a glam doll and hence, became a politician. Even I became a filmmaker because I felt that being an actress was not my borderline. So, I think there are parallels.”

It is true that both the actresses have been a revelation to the industry in their own way, and established themselves as someone we’d always remember for their forthcoming and bold choices of roles. Kangana Ranaut then also went ahead to mention how, “There was a time in my life also when I longed for a family. Some of the married people took advantage of that. There are scenes in Thalaivi with an actor who is married, and who promises marriage and then goes back on his word.” The dig here, as clear as the sky, was directed at none other than Kangana’s former co-star Hrithik Roshan.

The movie whose release date is speculated to be 26th June, is directed by AL Vijay and we can’t wait to see Kangana really bring alive the charisma that was Jayalalitha!
