Kangana Ranaut Says All OTT Platforms Are Like A Porn Hub. Why Is She So Dramatic About Everything?

I think desi Twitter is divided into two factions. One that supports all the nonsense that spews out of Kangana’s profile and the other that doesn’t. Needless to say, I belong to the latter. I don’t remember the last time Kangana (or her team rather) tweeted something and I didn’t shake my head at her and hold back the urge to laugh at her overreaction. But hey, that’s just me. This time, however, she has reached new levels of melodrama. She objected to a certain Navratiri tweet shared by Eros Now and ended up calling all OTT platforms a “porn hub”. I don’t know whether to laugh or just wallow in my disappointment.

It’s kind of expected from Kangana. She has started so many (metaphorical) fires that she should be hired to play the role of Bigg Boss. Now, that would be a season I would actually watch. Anyway, without further digression let me tell you why Kangana lashed out at OTT platforms.

You see, Eros Now landed itself in hot water after they shared  Navratri tweets using Bollywood stars and slogans that full of sexual innuendos. Yikes. There was a picture of Katrina Kaif and the slogan read, “Do you want to put the ratri in my Navratri?” Then another tweet had Ranveer Singh and the slogan read, “let’s have some majama in my pyjama”. Okay, it sounds bad but you have to admit, it’s slightly funny.

Not only Kangana but a lot of other people have taken offence to these tweets. So much so that #BoycottErosNow was trending on Twitter. Netizens slammed the campaign called it vulgar and offensive to Navratri.

Among all those netizens was Kangana Ranaut who took things to a new level. Not only did she take offence to these innuendo-laden creatives by Eros now but she also grabbed this opportunity to slam all streaming platforms. In her series of tweets, she stressed on the importance of family-friendly content. Talking about how OTT platforms produce vulgar and overly sexualized content to satisfy their audiences, she compared them to a “porn hub”. I have a question regarding this, does she never watch Netflix? Well, she doesn’t know what she is missing out on then.

Her tweet read, “We must preserve cinema as a community viewing theatre experience, its more difficult to enthral large section of audience than sexualise content for personal viewing, digitisation of art faces this major crisis, all streaming platforms are nothing but a porn hub. SHAME @ErosNow.”

Continuing, Kangana Ranaut’s next tweet read, “Even on international streaming platforms the nature of the content is sensational we need to manufacture overtly sexual, deeply gruesome brutal, violent content, essentially to arouse the viewer’s sexual appetite, very difficult to get any other content cleared by their teams. And it’s not streaming platforms fault when you wear headphones and watch content in your personal space all you need is instant gratification, it’s important to watch the movies with entire family, children, neighbours basically it must be a community experience.”

She concluded, “Community viewing enhances our awareness when we know someone is watching what we watching we want to be who we want them to think we are, we make conscious choices, censorship of what we feed our brains n emotions is very important and censor can be our own conscience as well.”

I don’t what kind of shows Kangana Ranaut watches but as someone who is practically in a relationship with her Netflix account, I can tell you not all shows have overly sexualized and violent content. There are so many shows and movies that are family-friendly. She does know on Netflix too you can pick and choose what you want to watch? Someone, please tell her that.

Look, Eros Now tried something and it backfired. That happens all the time. But there was no reason for Kangana to attack all streaming platforms because of it. In fact, after the attack, Eros Now not only apologized for hurting sentiments but also proactively took down the tweet in question. So Kangana’s overly dramatic response was, as usual, not needed.

The thing is, Kangana has every right to be offended. Just like anyone else. But why must she be so insanely dramatic about everything?
