Jemimah Rodrigues Becomes First Indian Cricketer To Play For Melbourne Stars. Another Milestone For Women’s Cricket!

One of the greatest tragedies in our cricket-loving nation is the fact that women’s cricket is one of the most undervalued sports within it. But to be fair, most women’s sport in India lacks the fan base it deserves. But there are milestones being hit in the realms of women’s cricket and one of the most recent ones has been that Indian batter Jemimah Jessica Rodrigues has been signed for the 8th season of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL).

Jemimah Rodrigues represented Melbourne Renegades last season, the Stars’ cross-town rival. She scored 333 runs with a strike rate of over 116. The batter is also the first Indian Female cricketer to play for the Stars and the third to sign a WBBL 8 contract along with Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (Melbourne Renegades), and Pooja Vastrakar (Brisbane Heat).

Rodrigues was a part of the Indian team that won the silver medal in this year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. She made her Indian debut at age of 17 in 2018. She has represented India in 58 T20 Internationals and 21 ODIs. Rodrigues will join the Stars after finishing her commitments toward Asia Women’s Cup. The event will happen on October 1-16 in Bangladesh.
