Indian Cyclist Meenakshi Run Over By Another Cyclist In A Freak Accident During Commonwealth Games 2022

The ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 has witnessed a great female representation from India. Injuries and incidents aren’t new in the field of sports. As a former National level swimmer myself, I can vouch for the fact that incidents do happen. I’ve seen a fair share of them myself. Recently, Indian cyclist, Meenakshi got injured in a freak accident after she was run over by another cyclist during the women’s 10 km scratch race at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Monday.
Meenakshi suffered a fall from her bike during the 10km women’s scratch race at the Commonwealth Games 2022. She fell and slid down the bank on the bend and right into the path of New Zealand cyclist Bryony Botha. The New Zealand cyclist also got involved in the crash as her cycle ran over Meenakshi and Bryony Botha also fell from her bike. Minutes after the freak accident medics rushed to the spot and both cyclists were taken out the race and provided medical attention. Meenakshi was carried off the track on a stretcher. While not much is known about the severity of the cyclist’s injuries, a video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

This is the second crash incident that has taken place in the Lee Valley Velo Park where the Commonwealth Games 2022 cycling events are taking place. Earlier on Sunday, English cyclist, Matt Walls suffered a horrific crash after his bike crashed against the wall of the track and catapulted into the crowd injuring spectators as well. In fact, Indian cyclist Vishavjeet Singh also narrowly escaped the crash. Soon after the incident, the race was abandoned and the spectators were asked to leave. Well, that’s 2 accidents in 2 days.
