India Will Be Hosting The 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup

The Women’s 50-over World Cup will be held in India in 2025 after the BCCI submitted a winning bid during the ICC Annual Conference, which ended on Tuesday in Birmingham. After more than a decade, the ICC flagship tournament will return to the nation. In 2013, Australia won the last women’s 50-over World Cup held in India after they defeated West Indies by 114 runs in the final match in Mumbai.

The 2024 T20 World Cup will be held in Bangladesh, and England will host the 2026 edition, among three other ICC women’s events that were also granted on that day. Sri Lanka will host the first T20 Champions Trophy in 2027. The last major international women’s cricket competition to be held in India was the 2016 World T20, but this was mostly because the ICC used to hold both men’s and women’s competitions simultaneously.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has divided the events to ensure that women’s sports receive the essential value, including a separate broadcast arrangement and exclusive coverage, as the expansion of women’s sports has, however, transformed the system.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said in an ICC statement that they are keen on hosting the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 and are delighted that they have earned the hosting rights for this premier match on the women’s calendar. He added that the sport has seen significant development and is a positive step because women’s cricket is becoming increasingly popular.

Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI said that they are taking initiatives to increase the reputation of the sport, right from the grassroots level, and hosting the World Cup would further boost its popularity in India. He claimed that the BCCI is still dedicated to developing women’s cricket in India and has the necessary infrastructure. He then said that he’s certain that this World Cup will be a huge success. The Future Tours Programmes (FTP) for men and women from 2023 to 2027 have been approved by the ICC Board and will be made public soon.
