In UP, A Woman Called Off Her Wedding After Groom’s Friends Dragged Her To The Dance Floor To Dance

I like to believe I am someone who loves love. I am the kind of a girl, whose knees go weak with just honesty which is kind of low on standards, but what am I to do?  But hey, just because I am a loving person, doesn’t mean that I am willing to drop everything at the cost of my own self respect, whether it is in a relationship or a marriage. Just like this woman who stood up for herself. In the recent case of a woman from UP, in a wedding where a bride called off a wedding the moment she felt disrespected and violated. And in this case, by the groom’s friends.

An incident that took place in a small wedding ceremony in a village in Uttar Pradesh, an angry, insulted and rattled bride recently called her own wedding off the very day, when she was dragged to the dance floor by some of groom’s friends to dance with them. The groom hailed from the Bareilly district, while the bride was from Kannauj district.

And honestly, the reason was good enough for more than just calling off the wedding. The two families, after the humiliating incident, got into a heated argument, and considering how disrespectful and unacceptable their actions of dragging any woman, let alone the bride, we were surprised that the groom’s side was saying anything that didn’t start or end with an apology.

After this, the bride’s side stayed adamant and called off the wedding, while the bride urged to be taken back home. Soon after this, the bride’s family also ended up filing a case of dowry against the groom and his parents. It was only later that the two families arrived on a settlement where the groom’s family agreed to pay Rs 6.5 lakh to the bride.

After this was settled, the groom’s family made another attempt at reconciling with the bride on Sunday, trying to convince her to agree for the wedding, but the bride, holding her self respect higher than anything else, still refused and for that we are proud of her. If this is not a modern day empowered happy ending, we don’t know what is! Finally women are standing up for themselves, and witnessing this wave of change, we can say the future might just be brighter than we thought.
