In Mumbai, A Married Man Forced A Woman To Sign A Live In Agreement And Then Repeatedly Raped Her.
Despite the growing success of women in their respective fields, despite the busting of social taboos everyday and despite the bridging gender gap in our country, I would still go ahead to say that it remains to be a bad time to be a woman in this world. We say this because as long as you’re a woman, chances are that you are at a constant threshold of danger, the kind that can knock your door in any form. Even in the form of a guy who promises you marriage, get you to sign a live in agreement, but rape you under its pretext instead.
A case has been reported in Mumbai recently, where a man raped a woman repeatedly under the pretext of getting married to her, and also forced her to sign a live-in agreement. A case lodged by a 27 year old victim, who has identified the accused as Sunit Waghmare, shared that she was first raped by him in a resort in Lonavala in 2019.
A report shared with the Hindustan Times says that, “On February 27, we arrested Waghmare from his Mumbai home and produced him in court the next day. The court has remanded Waghmare in police custody up to March 5.” The case lodged against him shares that the accused first met the victim by pretending to offer her a job.

As the two started talking and chatting more on the phone, they got better acquainted with each other. It is being said that the accused even proposed the victim for marriage, however she refused considering the man was already married to someone else and had kids. The accused then stated his intentions to divorce his wife.
Soon after the accused then asked the woman to accompany him to Lonavla to discuss divorce formalities with his lawyer, to which the victim agreed. When they reached the Lonavla resort, the woman found out that she was lied to and that there was no lawyer present. Waghmare then told the woman that he lied to her.
The woman then shared how Waghmare forced himself upon her and also threatened to harm her. She accused Waghmare of repeatedly raping her and even going ahead to rent an accommodation for her in Mumbai, for which he forced her to sign a live-in agreement. Later, the victim shared that the man started avoiding her saying that his wife was not ready to divorce him.
The police reported, “Though there was a live-in relationship agreement the woman was forced to have a physical relationship against her consent.” Once again, the idea of consent has been completely overlooked, as yet another man feels entitled to hold a woman against her will, rape her and ruin her life.
