In Madhya Pradesh, Four Men Gang Raped A Woman In Front Of Her Husband And Stole Thousands From Them. This Is Horrifying.

On 20th March 2020, after a long-standing and very convoluted trial, the four convicts in the gruesome Nirbhaya gang-rape case were finally executed. I remember feeling this surge of happiness and satisfaction that day, Nirbhaya had been avenged and the worst rape case India had seen was closed. I remember thinking that maybe this execution will be the reason the number of rapes in our country will decrease and women might be a little safer on the streets of our country. I really thought they would reform our rape laws to make them more stringent. Boy, was I wrong. Gender violence cases have not decreased.

This case from Madya Pradesh just proves that. A woman was gang-raped by four men in front of her husband. He was tied up by the accused. This is just monstrous, vile and it makes me sick to my stomach. 

You see, on Tuesday afternoon, the couple was driving through Madhya Pradesh’s Barwani district on a motorcycle. They halted there because the 30-year-woman wanted to relieve herself in the forested area nearby. 

When the woman did not return for a while, her husband went entered the wilderness to look for her. He found her surrounded by the 4 accused men. They tied him up and raped the wife. 

The accused also robbed the couple and threatened them with dire consequences. According to reports, they stole Rs 24,000 from the couple.

Additional superintendent of police Sunita Rawat has said that the complaint was lodged on Wednesday night. She added that the accused have been identified and will be arrested soon. 

The four men who did this to the woman do not deserve to walk freely among us. Men like these are inhuman and hold the mentality that any woman they lay eyes on automatically belongs to them. It’s disgusting and shameful. 

This rape culture in our country needs to be stopped. Men and boys need to be taught that forcing themselves on a woman is the most horrid thing they can do. The worst part is that once this woman’s story gains traction, there will a thousand misogynistic people with a thousand ridiculous notions.

Hey, here’s an idea- this time instead of justifying this misogynistic behaviour by saying things like, “she should’ve recited the gayatri mantra” or “why did go all by herself?” Can we just not? Instead, let’s try protecting these women and educating the men. Sound good?
