In Her Talk At WEF Davos, Priyanka Chopra Jonas Urged World Leaders To Listen And Put An End To Various Globally Pressing Issues. But, Are They Really Listening? Don’t Think So.

These are truly bittersweet times we are living in. On one side, Australia is burning down and on the other side, people are fighting tooth and nail to make our world just a bit more habitable. However bleak the situation feels at this moment; there is a silver lining in this whole situation. After all these years of denial and ignorance, we are finally not only recognizing and accepting the major problems but also taking the correct steps to contain those problems.

Let me give you a small example, now every child in our country knows the ill effects that plastic has on your environment. That is because, after numerous talks and debates, our government saw it as a rising problem and decided to ban it completely. Even if it took them years to take this step it has created an impact. This is on a very micro level, on a macro level we have activists fighting and screaming about various pressing issues from rooftops just hoping someone with real power will hear them and influence change. But how many of their concerns are actually being taken into consideration? Better late than never is a good phrase, but we are all worried “late” will turn into “too late”.

There are people who are working tirelessly on it. And one such person who is always ready to talk about subjects that are a major concern globally is our very own Priyanka Chopra Jonas. She truly is a commendable woman who is doing some incredible work to help people around the world. Advancing in the same path, earlier this week, she spoke out at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland with renowned world leaders from around the globe in attendance.

Dressed like a true lady boss in a black pantsuit and an oversized blazer, PeeCee touched upon a multitude of topics during her discussion. Speaking at a fireside chat, PeeCee elaborated on climate change and how it needs to be averted. She said “I would love to live in a place where my children when I have them, can grow up in a world where the world leaders have listened to Greta’s (Thunberg) generation. I want my kids to grow up in a place where the climate crisis is contained, if not averted.”

Climate change is hands down the most serious issue we are facing right now. We agree with Priyanka and I have to add, that is the same thing every one of us wants. The fact is if climate change is not curbed, in the coming decades, the air on Earth will no longer be breathable. We have strong voices talking about this on huge platforms, the strongest of them all being Greta Thunberg. But have you wondered despite it all why hasn’t there been any change? That is because change can only be made by world leaders who have the power to make and mend law. But, are they listening to all this noise? I highly doubt it. I genuinely hope they start soon, or we are all doomed.

The UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador then went on to describe what her vision for women’s rights is. She said, “I want to live in a place where a woman’s ability to succeed should be a basic human right and not based on geography or chance, asserted the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador while making a case for women’s rights.”

She also spoke about how the young women who are taking to the street to fight for their rights in our country have inspired her. She said, “We have this incredible young generation, and you can see that with everything that is happening in India right now. One of the youngest countries in the world, about 60 percent of the population being under the age of 35, coming on to the streets and demanding a change and that comes from empowering our own girls. I am inspired by those girls.”

The protests managed to bring us all together. There are several reports of fearless women tirelessly leading the protests nationwide and PeeCee is right, it is so overwhelming to watch them exercising their rights without even a flicker of doubt.

What I absolutely love about Priyanka’s talk is that it is super relevant. Though she touched upon a multitude of topics everything she said makes so much sense. It is because of people like her that we can even see a flicker of change igniting. I just wish world leaders would listen, take everything into consideration and actually do something about it. If not, these talks and these forums are just built on words and no action. I am not saying no one is doing anything, all I am saying is, can we please pick up the pace now?
