Husband Forces Woman To Abort 8 Times So He Could Have A Son

Mumbai is called a cosmopolitan city, a widely believed stereotype.  And that is definitely true for the most part. But there are still some people who have a mindset but there are people like that everywhere. Like the mindset of wanting to have a male child. Having a daughter is still looked down upon and there are people who are focused on wanting a son. And they will do anything to get a son, including putting the wife’s life on the line.  Take the example of this woman in Mumbai who was forced to abort her pregnancy eight times because her husband wanted a son.

Recently, in Dadar, Mumbai, a 40-year-old woman filed a police complaint that stated she had to abort her pregnancy eight times because her husband wanted a son. She also stated that a few years into the marriage her husband started beating her because he wanted a son.

The woman’s father is a well-reputed lawyer and he married the woman into a well-educated and known family. In 2007, the couple got married and it was a few years later that the husband started beating the woman because he wanted a son to protect his family and his property. She even had to abort her pregnancy eight times to fulfil his wish.

It was in 2009 that the couple had their first daughter. In 2011, when the woman became pregnant again, the husband forced her to the doctor’s and asked the woman to say that she did not want a baby. The situation of the woman just got worse after that. After that, she was forced to abort her pregnancies multiple times. In fact, the husband also started treatment for having a son in Mumbai.

Even after the husband forced the woman to abort her pregnancies eight times because he wanted a son, things didn’t get better. That is why, according to the woman, her husband took her to Bangkok for a preimplantation genetic diagnosis. It was there that the woman had to undergo treatment as well as surgery just to examine the sex of the embryo before it was conceived. And it was during that time that the woman was given more than 1,500 steroid and hormonal injections. The police are still investigating the case.

The want for a son has pushed the husband to such low that he has put his wife through eight abortions and given her more than 1,500 steroids and hormonal injections. I can’t even begin to imagine the emotional, physical, and mental turmoil the woman – who was forced to abort her pregnancy – must have gone through. A woman is not a reproduction machine. And scientifically, her genes are not the deciding factor whether or not the child is going to be a male or a female. Then why is she the one who has to go through so much? Why is she the one who has to take the blame for giving birth to a female child? And most importantly, why is it wrong to have a daughter? Why is there a need for a son? These questions are something that every family needs to ask themselves. It is only when we change our mentality, is when the situation will change.
