Hazel Keech Opened Up About Battling Mental Health Issues And Says It’s Due To The Pressure Of Being A Celebrity

I had a friend in college, she would eat a fruit in the morning and then nothing else all and then nothing else all day. She called that dieting, I called it starvation. One day, she fainted in college, I called her mom and she was rushed to the doctor. I asked her why she would do that. She said, she needed to become as thin as the other girls in college really quickly to fit in. So, when Hazel Keech posted from when she was 22, I could totally relate. We have all been there, haven’t we? Trying to blend with the crowd becomes the most important thing but, it’s not. Once you grow up, all you want to do is be you because being someone else is too much work. So, when Hazel Keech said she is much happier now, it’s super relatable.

Earlier this year, Hazel took to Instagram to post a picture participating in the 10-year challenge. The picture showed her at 22 on the right and then on the left was her at 32 looking healthier, happier and more like herself. The caption though was what really caught our eye, she talked about battling depression and bulimia. Issues that multiple people at 22 face but rarely talk about, thankfully that stigma is fading away now thanks to media and movies. She said that at 32 she is more at peace with herself than ever before and that is truly beautiful. Check out the post.

The caption read, “22 years on the right VS almost 32 years on the left…. and how far I’ve come! I was battling depression, starving myself, had bulimia, dyed my hair dark and kept it long trying to fit in a please everyone around me but hiding all the pain with a smile and joke, so no one knew. Today, I can confidently talk about what I’ve gone through, I don’t care what others think of me, I finally had the courage to cut my hair, I don’t try and fit in anymore and I am happier, healthier and more at peace with myself than I ever imagined I could be! Wahooo.”

In a recent interview she also talks about how mental health stems from the belief that you aren’t good enough. I agree, the more you compare yourself to others and believe that you aren’t good enough or thin enough or pretty enough or even qualified enough, the more holes you make in your self esteem leading to anxiety, depression and a lot more issues.

She also says that the industry just added onto her already chipped off confidence, being judged for your looks constantly, having people tell you that you aren’t good enough affects you more than anything. She said, “But yes, being in an industry where you’re constantly poked, prodded and dissected and told ‘parts of your face or body is fine but other parts need to be surgically altered’ and that you’re not pretty/slim/tall/sexy enough does chip away at your self-esteem. Thankfully, asking for help is becoming less and less of a taboo these days.” If you are facing something like this, you must speak up and get help. It’s perfectly normal to go through a phase of major self doubt but get help.

Going on about how being a celebrity affects mental health the Bodyguard star says something that a lot of people seem to forget, “Celebrities are people too.” Due to the growth of media, people do seem to forget that celebrities at the end of the day are people and everything that affects you, affects them too. They fall and make mistakes just like you and me but we so much harsher on them for it. She also said, “Some people seem to have lost compassion for each other.” And the truly sad part about this is that it is true.
