Have You Checked Out The New Dating App Happn Yet?

By  |

Considering the extent of our digital interactions today, it’s no secret that dating apps have become incredibly popular. What’s more, there are a plethora of options to choose from, including everything from Tinder and Woo, to TrulyMadly and Hinge, which have opened up a world of unexplored connections just waiting to be made. And one more app joining the bandwagon in India now is the French dating app Happn.

Launched in 2014 by Didier Rappaport, the app has become super popular and claims to have over 15 million users in 40 cities around the world. Happn was introduced in India late last month, and even though its entry has been very low key, it has already gained over 200,000 users. With its popularity only increasing, it’s not hard too see why people are calling it the next Tinder.

So what differentiates Happn from the rest? The idea of Happn centres around “meeting up” rather than “hooking up”, with the aim of connecting users who have crossed paths in real life using their real-time geolocation. So whether it’s that stranger you found really cute while walking through the mall or in the train or in the nightclub — but didn’t have the courage to speak to — Happn makes it easy for you to find him or her via the app. Every time you cross a Happn user, their profile opens up on your app and you get a notification. You will also get an indication of how many times you have indirectly crossed paths with that person before. Info such as their name, age, profession and similar interests will be available to check.

If you like what you see then click the heart icon. The catch here is the other person will not get any notification of your move unless they heart you too. Only once you match can you start a conversation. However, if you’re the impatient sort and want things to move faster, you can click on the Charm icon which will send a notification to the other person indicating that you have shown interest in them. But before you get too happy, bear in mind that this is a paid feature. (Smart way to make money, no?)
