While we took Pride Month to educate ourselves regarding various topics in regard to the LGBTQ+, I feel like looking at how oppressed the queer community is within our country, we are still a long way from equal rights. However, one little good news that I can share with you is the news of this adorable gay couple from Kolkata, Cheitan Sharrma and Abhishek Ray who got married in a full-fledged ceremony recently.

Cheitan Sharrma and Abhishek Ray are a gay couple from Kolkata who married on July 3 in a conventional wedding ceremony. The photos from their lovely celebration, which was attended by close relatives and friends, went viral on social media, leaving people speechless. Cheitan talked about the wedding saying that their wedding was going to take place in December last year and due to Covid-19 his family was unable to attend at the time. They then decided to postpone the celebration to July. He added that they were both active in every aspect of wedding planning.

Cheitan also emphasized that everyone was highly supportive of their desire to marry. He said that they found a lot of supportive people wherever they went for the wedding arrangement – hotels, the event provider, decorators, and photographers. He said that even their Panditji was really supportive.

The festivities began on July 1 with Ganesh sthapna in the morning, followed by the tilak ritual in the evening. The next day, the mehendi, engagement, and cocktail were all planned. The haldi ceremony was held in the morning on July 3, and the wedding was held in the evening.

The couple wore matching yellow kurtas and white pyjamas to the haldi ceremony. They looked stunning in embroidered ivory sherwani outfits for the main ceremony. The photos from the ceremony show how much love and adoration the two have for each other. Cheitan talked about his now husband, Abhishek saying that he feels blessed and lucky to have Abhishek as his husband, life partner, and best friend. Cheitan added that Abhishek is a wonderful and generous person.

According to Indian Express, Cheitan urged every member of the LGBTQ+ community to face their obstacles with confidence. He appealed saying that they have all endured similar hardships but only they can pave the route for future generations who may identify share the same identity as them. He added that behind any accomplishment, there are many challenges and that only confidence can help one conquer these obstacles. He motivated people from the community asking them to never look down upon themselves and take pride in who they are. He then said that “Love always wins!”
