Friends Stars Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow Discuss Bloopers, Favourite Episodes And Watching The Show Together Some Day

Fans of the hit NBC sitcom and international television phenomenon Friends have one more reason to pray coronavirus goes away real soon. You see, barring a second-wave, the Friends Reunion special for HBO Max might be shot in August, a treat that not just the show’s fans but also its cast—Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc—have been desperately waiting for. In a world where hope and joy seem a little scarce right now, this could be a lovely thing to look forward to for many.

Unfortunately, even if the special is shot, it might be months perhaps until we get to see it. Until then, this mini virtual reunion of Rachel Green and Phoebe Buffay, i.e. Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow, might be just the thing to tide us over!

The two actresses got together, on video conference of course,  for Variety’s Actors on Actors issue, and talked about the 90s’ show that catapulted them to fame and made them some of the most beloved TV actors of all time. The almost hour-long video has a lot of fun tidbits about the actors’ experiences shooting Friends, what they did on the set, their first table read which was when they might’ve met for the first time, and of course the Friends reunion. They also spoke about their current acting stints—Aniston is a frontrunner for the Emmys this year for her role on Apple TV+ The Morning Show. Kudrow is fresh off her roles in two Netflix comedy series, Space Force and Feel Good.

The video began with some adorable goofiness from both actresses as they greeted each other with enthusiasm you might’ve expected from Rachel and Phoebe on the show. Kudrow told Aniston that she had “million” questions to ask of her, some of whose answers she already knows because, well, they are friends IRL too!

Aniston also recounted how once, she and Courteney Cox, who played Monica Geller on the show, went on the Internet to research some Friends thing, and stumbled upon these Friends blooper reels.

“This one time I was with Courteney, and we were trying to find something to reference, an old ‘Friends’ thing,” Aniston said. “And then we stumbled on — there’s bloopers online — and we sat there at the computer like two nerds watching these bloopers laughing at ourselves.”

Kudrow recounted how one of her favourite episodes was the one where they find out about Monica and Chandler and she says, “My eyes! My eyes!” Turns out, she sought Matthew Perry’s permission to say the dialogue like Chandler would! When Kudrow asked Aniston about her favourite Friends episodes, she said that she loves how while watching episodes, she can always remember where the actors took a break while filming. And mostly, it was because she and Kudrow couldn’t stop laughing!

“You and I would always get into these fits of laughter because you had this wonderful ability to — you were about to hit your punchline, and you would do this adorable thing where you would break. You would say the punchline, and you would always turn to the audience and say, ‘I’m sorry, it’s really funny’.”

The actors talked about the anticipated reunion, which they both let on they were quite excited to shoot, especially since it is not a scripted one. In fact, none of them know what exactly will be happening in this special, which makes it even more intriguing! They’re definitely not playing their respective characters. So what could it be?

A surprising bit of info—did you know that Lisa Kudrow hasn’t quite seen all of the episodes because she “didn’t want to ruin it”. She told Aniston, “I don’t watch the show. I’m still not watching it in the hopes that one day we sit down and watch them together.”

Awww that would be great, wouldn’t it? Imagine a blooper reel of the Friends cast watching Friends! Could it BE any more perfect?
