FIFA Suspends All India Football Federation. So India Won’t Be Hosting U-17 Women’s World Cup This Year. This Is Sad!

While on one side we have our women athletes breaking barriers and creating history, on the other side we have bad news coming in for our Indian women’s football team. What is that news? Well, FIFA recently announced that the Indian football federation has been suspended with immediate effect and that the U-17 Women’s World Cup that was scheduled to take place in India in October will not be held.

On Monday, August 15, FIFA made an official announcement that it is suspending the Indian football federation with immediate effect because of “undue influence from third parties”. This suspension jeopardized the Indian women’s football team to play at the upcoming U-17 Women’s World Cup in October.

In an official statement, the Bureau of the FIFA Council unanimously agreed to suspend the All India Football Federation (AIFF) immediately based on influence from third parties. It said that they violated many of their rules.

As per reports, the statement released by FIFA also stated that the suspension of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) will remain in place until it has complete control over its daily affairs. The AIFF is in a mess and is run by an administration that was formed by former chief Praful Patel who surpassed his term. Also, there were no elections that took place.

The statement by FIFA also added, “The suspension will be lifted once an order to set up a committee of administrators to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee has been repealed and the AIFF administration regains full control of the AIFF’s daily affairs”.

This suspension by FIFA also means that the U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 which was to take place in India on October 11-30, 2022, will not be held. For those unversed, India has previously hosted the U-17 World Cup in 2017.
