Every Girl Graduating From College Will Get Their Passport Along With Their Degrees, Says Haryana CM. This Is Great

FI Girls To Get Passports With Graduation

The way women and girls have had to live their lives in this world, has most often been at the mercy of men, who decide what is best for us. First our fathers, then our brothers, and soon after our marriages, it is our husbands. Men who simply take away our right to make our own decisions, taking away our agency, without consent. But times are changing. Or are they? There are still numerous girls out there, who aren’t allowed to attend school, step beyond the threshold of their kitchens, let alone the house. But there is a glimmer of hope.

In a heartening and progressive news, seems like the idea of enabling women has finally dawned upon the state of Haryana, as it has announced that girl students in the state will be provided passports after they graduate from college. A process that will be completed while the women are still in college,  and this is a decision in the right direction, after all.

The Chief Minister of Haryana, Khattar said, “The state government has decided that all girl students should get a passport from their institutions along with their graduation degree,” and we think the fact that the state recognises just how important and basic it is for women to have these things ready after their graduation, in case they want to pursue foreign opportunities, was a correct approach towards a more powerful and equal world for women.

The news was announced at the event of “Har Sar Helmet” organised on Saturday to provide learners’ driving licenses and free helmets to about 100 students in Karnal. This was a campaign that aimed to distribute  helmets and learning licenses to school youths, college students and ITI in the age group of 18 to 25 years.

CM Khattar also commented how, “Students will get a learner license while graduating from college at the age of 18 years with basic training on road safety and regulation. Wearing a helmet is important.” He then further added, “Around 1,300 accidents take place in the country daily. A majority of the victims without helmet succumb to their injuries. Approximately 13 people die daily in accidents in Haryana. Studies show that if a person drives a vehicle wearing a helmet, there is an 80 per cent chance of survival in the accident.”

Not only was his concern valid, but also his approach of enabling the youth, especially women with not just driver’s ed and learning license but also a passport, that otherwise becomes a topic of debate back at home, was a move that is now being appreciated. Here is also hoping that the youth understands the gravity of such campaigns and understands that this opens up a world of opportunities.
