I Tried The Electrical Muscle Stimulation Workout, And The Result Was A Bit Shocking!

Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) workouts are the talk of the town in the fitness world. EMS can help you build muscle through slow electrical pulses, which cause the muscles to contract and relax. As freaky as it sounds, I tried this workout out for a few weeks, and it was one of the coolest things I’ve done as a fitness enthusiast!

First things first, you don’t need to carry your gym clothes! Slipping into a pair of black tights and a t-shirt made of a certain fabric provided by the gym, is all you need to break a sweat. When it’s time for you to slip into the bodysuit, it will be splashed down with water so that the electric waves can hit the muscles easily. The wired suit targets all the major muscle groups like the calves, thighs, glutes, abs, biceps, etc. These electrode pads are placed on the bulkiest part of your muscle and typically secured by velcro straps. Finally, you will be connected to an electrical stand with a small screen on it, with the help of a few more wires.

The workout consisted of very basic exercises like the push-up, bicep curls, squats, lunges, ab crunches etc. But never did I imagine that this 20-minute session would be equivalent to 3 hours of a regular workout. The best part of it all is that you just need to do this once a week for a few months to start seeing the results. Trust me, after the very first session I was sore for a few days, so you know that this workout is effective!

If you’re wondering how this works exactly, then imagine doing a normal push up where your brain will signal the nerves in your chest, shoulders, and triceps to contract a certain number of muscle fibres, but with EMS your muscle fibres are already contracting and working while you do the push-up. This way you are working more muscles than you would normally do in a regular push-up. All in all, EMS helps to loosen muscle fibres and improve blood flow to the muscles, which can result in more muscle growth, relieving pain and muscle toning.

Several gyms are sprouting up all over the world due to the high demand for this technology.  I was fortunate enough to try an EMS-based workout at the Eazy Gym in Bandra. Click here to book an appointment with them.
