7 Ways To Have A Safe And Happy Diwali This Year!

‘Baby, you’re a firework’ crooned Katy Perry and we all really felt like we were. However, unless you can spontaneously combust, you aren’t the kind of cracker people want to watch on Diwali. With the festival of lights right around the corner, it becomes important to enjoy the festival but be careful while doing it. It can seem like all fun and games but playing with fire is no joke and taking extra care is a must, especially when kids and firecrackers are involved.

While dressing up, eating mithai and all that is important, don’t forget to be careful. Here are 7 ways in which you can make sure to have a happy and safe Diwali this year.

1. Wear Appropriate Materials

From adults to children, everybody loves to watch the sky light up in the many colours of firecrackers. But while you are staring at up, you don’t want a pretty outfit to catch fire.  The best thing to do would be to avoid wearing clothes made of cotton or any synthetic material. They could be potential risk.

2. Keep A Fire Extinguisher Handy

Ensure that there is always a fire extinguisher in close proximity. In the event of an untoward incident, this could save lives and potential damage. Apart from the extinguisher, keep some water or sand close by, these help in extinguishing flames as well.

3. Keep Diyas In Isolated Places

Diwali is the best time to illuminate any room with candles and diyas, making the room come alive under twinkling lights. A caveat, keep the candles away from flammable items or any upholstery that could potentially catch fire.

4. Dispose Of Spent Crackers

There are embers, tiny particles of fired up stuff and a bunch of things that are still alive and hazard even after the fireworks display is done.  Ensure you dispose of the burnt pieces away, putting them in water or pouring sand over it.

5. Keep a first aid kit handy

Always keep a first aid kit handy in case of minor burns or any injuries. This could help when you are waiting for medical attention or mitigate the damage.

6. Don’t mess around or joke about it

Yes, kids will be kids but that’s no reason to slack when it comes to fireworks. Avoid involving firecrackers while playing pranks and make this a rule. There’s more harm that fun involved and it could get worse.

7. Take care of pet safety

Pets go through a difficult time with so much noise around them. As a pet owner, their safety is your responsibility and while you can’t completely avoid it, creating a safe haven for them with minimal noise might be possible. Explore your options.

Have a happy and safe Diwali this year!
