In A Case Eerily Similar To The Nirbhaya Case, Delhi Woman Gets Gang Raped And Left On The Ground
Back in 2012 and I was around 14 at the time. I was 14 when I first heard about rape because of the spine-chilling Nirbhaya case. As a naive young girl, I remember not being able to comprehend how someone could do something so gross, heinous and inhuman. However, it has been 10 years since then and I have continuously heard the situation for women in India get worse. While there is more awareness about female safety or the lack thereof of safety for women in our country, can we actually say that things have gotten better? Because seeing this gang rape case from Uttar Pradesh makes me question if we have made any progress over the past decade. This case is unfortunately eerily similar to the Nirbhaya case and the details will dishearten you.
In Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, a group of guys are charged with violently assaulting and gang-raping a Delhi woman. Initial reports state that the accused left the 38-year-old victim on the side of the road following the horrible crime early on Tuesday. The woman who resides in East Delhi was discovered close to the Nandgram police station at 3.30 AM on Tuesday, according to the Ghaziabad police. After learning that a woman was on the ground close to Ashram Road, the police went to the area and transported the woman to the hospital.

The accused and the victim’s family were embroiled in a property dispute, according to the Ghaziabad police, who have detained four individuals. Additionally, it has come to light that the accused kidnapped the victim, held her captive for two days, and brutally abused and tortured her. The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), which has taken suo moto notice of the event, has given the Ghaziabad police notice and requested an action taken report on the matter by October 21.

The DCW also released a statement that revealed that the woman had been taken hostage by four guys in a Scorpio and driven to another location where she had been gang-raped for two days by them and another man. She was thereafter placed in a sack and abandoned on the highway, where she was later discovered in a pool of blood with an iron rod shoved in her privates. The woman is currently being treated for a serious condition in a hospital in Delhi, according to the statement. Swati Maliwal, the head of DCW, said that the incident is horrifying and upsetting further adding that it resembles the Nirbhaya case. She added that all suspects must be detained right away and face harsh punishment.
