I have a three-woman army after my life to get married. That army includes my grandmother, my maasi and my elder sister; not my mom though because she is chill that way. Each time I went over to their places (respectively) I would inevitably get asked when I am going to give them the “good news”. This when I wasn’t even dating someone, which of course, disappointed them further.
My grandmother questioned as to how a young, smart, independent woman (I was flattered though) like myself could not find a guy to love? Hers was a love marriage so she strongly upholds that concept. But little does she know it’s not easy to find a guy who believes in old-fashioned love. My sister tried to restore my flickering faith in marriage by enticing me with the possibility of a child (what even!), which of course I told her we don’t need marriage for. Plus, I already have feline children. Now that I have started seeing someone (much to my grandma’s relief!) – they keep asking when we are getting married.
So I figured, until I do tie the knot there’s no escaping this. Honestly, I feel like a lot of women will relate to this. We all have people on our backs pushing us towards marriage and children as if this is a race and we’re losing out. And before I lose the plot and start venturing into the adventures of navigating a shaadi-obsessed world, let me get to the point. Recently, Deepika Padukone shared a couple of pictures from when she was a baby – and guess what, netizens became the aunties we try hard to dodge!

She captioned her posts “post diwali celebrations…” possibly implying that she is enjoying sleeping away after the hectic celebrations. But then fans went berserk, wildly speculating that the actress is expecting a child. I mean, really? That’s what you get out of this? Someone wrote “Baby is on the cards” and someone else wrote, “Congratulations are in order”. What’s funny is that Hrithik Roshan too joined the bandwagon of over-enthu aunties and wrote, “OMG! Good News!” Please tell me he was just being sarcastic. I expect better from him.
