Deepika Padukone Credits Mother Ujjala Padukone For Identifying Her Depression, ‘Don’t Know What State I’d Be In, Today’

Deepika Padukone has been one of the most beloved and well-known actresses in Bollywood, for a while now. She has always been very vocal about issues about mental health as well as her own battle with depression. Having been through a mental illness herself, she knows that the battle against it isn’t easy so, to support and help those who are struggling with the same, she runs the Live Love Laugh Foundation. She is currently in Tamil Nadu for a mental health event and there, she opened up about her personal experience, yet again.

Deepika first opened up about her tough experience with depression back in 2015. She clearly mentioned that she has been battling this mental illness for a year and has also sought help to get better. She exclaimed that the battle against depression isn’t easy but giving up is never the right option either.

Deepika Padukone Credits Her Mother For Her Victory

Depression is known as the silent killer because it can be very hard to identify it and realise that the awful and negative emotions that you’re going through are prevalent because of a mental illness. When you’re facing the massive psychological and physiological pressure of depression, it can also be extremely hard to see a way out of the situation. Thankfully, Deepika Padukone had her mother by her side to make things easier for her.

Deepika Padukone has given the entire credit for her victory against depression, to her mother. She believes that her mother, Ujjala Padukone was the one who identified her signs and symptoms. She strongly believes that had her mother not been there to help her and support her in her moments of utter vulnerability, she has no clue what state she would be in, today.

In a very recent interview, she said that her mother was always ensuring that she was regular with her treatment, her appointments with her doctors and her medications. She stated, “It takes a toll on the caregiver as well and that’s not something new. I think caregivers in general, whether it is mental illness or any other form of illness, it takes a toll on the caregiver.”

Deepika has been one of the few celebrities who have actively opened up about their mental health. It is very essential that more and more celebrities follow in their footsteps and come out and speak about their mental health and their experiences with mental illnesses. Such moves can inspire the masses to open up this vital conversation in the public that can not only normalise but also promote seeking help from mental health facilitators and practitioners.
