Couple In Malaysia Invites 10,000 People To Their Drive-Through Wedding. How Innovative!

My parents read my articles and I can’t afford one more inquisition that starts and ends with ‘when do you plan on getting married?’ so I am  to just say my wedding is going to be a grand affair. But I know that really, I want my wedding to be an intimate affair with just close friends, relatives and guests invited. Of course the coronavirus too has hardly left anyone with different options, considering several couples have had to bid adieu to their grand wedding plans as the wedding party size was sizeably reduced to keep everyone safe. However, if there was one couple that still managed to find a way to carry on with their grand guest list, it was a couple in Malaysia, that recently hosted 10,000 people at their wedding!

Yes, it’s true and yes, this was all during this pandemic. Keeping in mind the strict regulations and ensuring that no precaution during the time of corona was being overlooked, Tengku Muhammed Hafiz and Oceane Alagia, a Malaysian couple, racked their brains to pull off a memorable wedding with 10,000 guests.

The way they did this was by sitting outside a government building, and waving past all the guests, as they entered the driveway in their cars, and drove past the happy and newly wed couple. Up until now, while we had witnessed drivethrough celebrations and greetings, what we didn’t imagine happening was a three hour long charade of guests driving past the couple as a way of attending a wedding. That is definitely a first!

Talk about embracing the moment, we laud the Malaysian couple for finding the middle ground in such a situation. The groom’s father, Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, a former Malaysian minister, also publicised the wedding on his Facebook page, as he wrote, the unusual event was celebrated in “the new norm”. He also went on to thank the guests for their cooperation and understanding and wrote, “Thank you all for understanding and adhering to all procedures made by drive-through attendance without getting out of the vehicle.”

Guests, after having driven past the couple, blessing them with good wishes, were then made to pick up takeaway food from a nearby tent, still adhering to the safety protocols. Seems like everything from their attendance, to their food was well taken care of, and with the corona stats not slowing down, it is only fair to come up with innovative solutions, to thrive in this ‘new normal’.
