Canadian Woman Becomes First Person To Be Diagnosed With A Case Of Climate Change!

I don’t think it comes as a surprise to anyone when the phrase “climate change is real” hits our ears (except if you are a certain group of individuals.) Anyway, climate change IS real and it is scary. Warnings about disastrous changing climate patterns have been around for over 60 years. However, before the 2000s up until the 1970s, these were merely warning about what could potentially happen. However, since the 2000s started, we have come closer and closer to the warnings that were repeated back then. We are currently living in the nightmarish crisis we inherited from our ancestors. And the effects are clear as we saw how the disastrous 2020 began with the Australian wildfires. We now have one more concern as a Canadian woman is probably the first person to be diagnosed with a case of “climate change.”

According to Times Colonist, a Canadian woman in her 70s, living in a trailer in the British Columbia province, had been facing issues breathing. The doctors attributed it to heatwaves and the bad air quality. While the patient was already a patient of asthma, Dr Kyle Merritt says that this is the first time he has written ‘climate change’ while writing a diagnosis. Canada had been dealing with severe heatwaves followed by smog due to wildfires in June causing the effects of climate change to aggravate, which worsened her already weak health. Dr Merritt says, “She has diabetes. She has some heart failure. She lives in a trailer with no air conditioning. All of her health problems have all been worsened. And she’s really struggling to stay hydrated.” Dr Merritt’s diagnosis resulted in local doctors joining hands and starting an initiative called Doctors and Nurses for Planetary Health.
Considering that the heatwaves in British Columbia were so bad that they killed 500 people and left the air quality 40 times worse than what is normally acceptable for the next 2-3 months, it is high time we start taking this seriously. People are clearly dying because of the selfishness of humanity as a whole. We civilians and the people in power need to start taking action to better the environment and try to reverse the damage done.
