Man Films Domestic Help Changing Clothes, Then Gangrapes Her

Let’s face it, rape has become the norm. Every other day there is some of the other news that highlights how a woman or women have been subjected to rape by stupid men.. Listening, watching, or reading such disturbing news every day is not how the “new normal” should look. And it isn’t like things are getting better or there are steps being taken to prevent rape as well. Honestly, I wonder how many more women have to go through this before we as a society take concrete steps towards change. The most recent example of a disturbing case is about a businessman who filmed his domestic help changing clothes and then gangraped her with his 81-year-old friend.

Recently, in the Ratibad area of Bhopal a businessman, Shiv Narayan, and an author and professor, Devendra gang raped a woman. The incident took place at a farmhouse in that area.

The gangrape survivor went ahead and filed a complaint against the 60-year-old businessman, Shiv Narayan, and his 81-year-old friend, Devendra. The police later charged them and arrested them for such a heinous crime.

As per the Madhya Pradesh police, Shiv Narayan, a businessman, owns a security agency whereas Devendra whose pen name is ‘Bedhadak’ is a published author and a retired professor of the Rewa government college. The police state that the gangrape survivor used to work as domestic help for Shiv Narayan.

According to the police reports, Shiv Narayan, a businessman, had employed one of his security guard’s wife – the gangrape survivor – as domestic help, and then a year ago he secretly filmed a video of her changing clothes. Later, he used that video as a tool to sexually abuse her repeatedly.

When on Sunday, Devendra came to visit Shiv Narayan at his farmhouse and then saw him sexually abusing the domestic help, he also joined in. The police stated that the businessman and professor gangraped the domestic help and threatened her with serious consequences if she ever told anyone about what happened.

But the gangrape survivor, the domestic help, narrated the entire gruesome incident to her husband and later even informed the police about the same. Based on her complaint, the police registered the case against the two – the businessman and professor – arrested them on Monday.

And I honestly couldn’t be more proud of the gangrape survivor. To be a domestic help and then file a complaint against a well-established businessman and a published author, a professor requires a lot of strength and courage. We as a society really need to ensure that we create a safe environment for our women. And just discussing or talking about it is not going to help. We need to take stern steps and make strict rules to imply those ideas in our daily life. And let’s just start with teaching our men about consent and setting boundaries.
