Bow Down India! Hima Das Just Won Her Fourth Gold. There’s No Stopping Her

Pull out the tricolour and wave it with pride. Because our girl Hima Das has just got home a fourth gold. Yes. Chances are, you weren’t keeping count. But she’s gotten us four gold medals now and if that doesn’t make you want to get up and applaud, we don’t know what will. And we are talking four golds since 2nd July. That’s in 16 days. I mean, I am just…wow, this woman is something else.

The latest addition to her gold medal tally happened at the Tabor Athletics Meet in Czech Republic. Hima’s time wasn’t her personal best, she clocked in at 23.25 but she’s definitely getting closer to 23.10 – her best effort till date. Of course, the competition in Czech wasn’t top notch, apparently, the runners were not international athletes but from local clubs and obviously, they didn’t hold a candle to the blazing Hima.

Her Indian counterpart, V K Vismaya came in second with a season best of 23.43.

Hima’s timing has been consistently improving. In her first 200m race of the year, the 19-year-old athlete finish with 23.65 seconds on the clock. She won gold here. This was at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland on July 2. She then wen on to win her second 200m gold at the Kutno Athletics Meet, also in Poland, this was 5 days later on 7th July 7 . Her time was 23.97 seconds. She won her third 200m gold at the Kladno Athletics Meet on 13th July at the Czech Republic with a time of 23.43. This was better than her previous two times. But it was on the fourth gold that she came closest to her best time.

And Hima’s not just making her name in sport. She recently donated half her salary to help relief efforts in the Assam floods. She said,  “I have contributed my bit and requesting others also to please help people of Assam. #AssamFloods” She also urged Indians who were well off to make contributions towards the work going on in Assam.

Here’s a woman with fire in her belly, gold around her neck and her heart in the right place. We have every reason to celebrate.

Seen it all?

We’ve got more!
