Bihar Student Stands By Her Question To IAS Officer About Affordable Sanitary Pads. Period Poverty Is Real

She's right!

When I heard that a female IAS officer had made some comments, I had never that it will be so humiliating. For the unversed, when a school girl asked Harjot Kaur Bamhrah if the government can provide sanitary pads at a subsidised rate, she answered by saying that students will then ask for jeans, shoes, and condoms as well which was so problematic. Now, the girl who asked the question came forward and said that her question about sanitary napkins was not wrong.

The student, Riya Kumari, who had asked the senior IAS officer and Women Development Corporation Managing Director Harjot Kaur Bamhrah about the government’s initiatives to provide affordable sanitary napkins to schoolgirls recently spoke about the matter. She said that her question about affordable sanitary pads was not wrong as it is not a big thing.  The schoolgirl added that she can buy pads but there are many people who live in slums and can’t afford to buy pads as it is not available at a subsidised price. She mentioned that she raised the question not just for herself but for all girls and they went there to put forward their concerns and not to fight with the IAS officer.
