Prospective Parents In Bengal Are Interested In Adopting Girl Child Over Boy, As Per CARA Data. It’s A Refreshing Change!

There is no doubt that not every woman or man on this planet wants to become a parent biologically, many people, including single men and women, prefer adopting a child because it is much easier and there are so many children who need a loving and safe home. But when we talk about adoption, you might think that people prefer adopting boys over girls which is true to some extent. However, Bengal is proving us all wrong and we are not complaining at all. This might sound shocking but prospective parents in West Bengal are more interested in adopting a girl child than a boy. Yes, we can’t believe it either but it is good news!
In West Bengal, prospective parents have preferred adopting a girl child over a boy in the last four years. The records that are with the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), many childless couples, unmarried women or men, widows, divorcees and widowers are more interested in adopting a girl child than a boy child. Sociologists are saying that this trend is a positive sign as it indicates a societal change in terms of awareness and we agree with them.
An official of the state government’s women, child development and social welfare department mentioned that the CARA report shows that more than half of the applicants have shown interest in adopting a girl child in the last four years.

Since 2018-19, a total of 855 children were adopted and among them, nearly 512 are girl children, as per the records.
The rule book states that anyone can apply to adopt a child and the district magistrates give final approval after representatives of the government visit the houses of the applicants. They also conduct counselling sessions and arrange meetings between the applicants and the kid to be adopted.

People showing interest in adopting a girl child is a sign that things are changing for the better and society’s mind is changing.
