Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli are pregnant! Virushka are having a baby! Nope, not going to stand much on formality here and begin this story with, “2020 sucks but there are a few good things to come out of it” crap because the excitement is so palpable in everyone! The couple, in their trademark style, announced the pregnancy with simultaneous identical posts on social media, much like their wedding announcement. Mommy-to-be Anushka, clad in an adorable black polka-dot dress and daddy-to-be Virat Kohli, both practically glowing with joy, can be seen in the picture. And of course, Baby Virushka makes a behind-the-scenes appearance in the form of a baby bump!

Some of Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s sports and film industry peers also dropped in the comments to wish them. Yuzvendra Chahal wishing bhaiyya and bhabhi, Chris Gayle saying “Congratulations kaka” and everyone from Priyanka Chopra to Katrina Kaif to Ajinkya Rahane congratulating the happy couple, it was all so sweet!
The Indian skipper’s post had been up for some seven minutes when I saw it on my Instagram feed. And the excitement has not left me since! I just had to share it on my stories, and ask other people if they were feeling it too! The whole announcement felt like my own friends were having a baby and I was happy for them, you know? And I wasn’t the only one, the sentiment echoed across many other people’s social media feeds. We’re all inexplicably excited that Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma are preggers!

Why? Well, I guess I’ve got a clue, at least for my own. Amongst the barrage of celebrity weddings that dominated 2018-2019, Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s wedding touched my soul in ways that I cannot express. I mean, sure, they were the least expected, and also the first of the lot to get married, starting some kind of a trend for it. But, everything, from the location of their wedding (Italy) and that blush pastel colour palette of their wedding photos and videos to the intimate setting and the way they both looked at each other—I don’t think any other celeb wedding came even remotely close to it. And we had quite a few of them, mind you, from DeepVeer to NickYanka. So naturally, if there were to be a Virushka baby on the way, I’d take it as a personal reason to be joyous!

The little one is due in January 2021, a time that the whole world has pinned its ‘expectations’ to because 2020 really made us work for those happy moments. And this news just seems to give us another reason to look forward to it! No pressure, though!
