Air India Crew To Say ‘Jai Hind’ After Every Announcement. We Think It’s Funny.

We know Air India as our national airline. Also as the one airline that we want to patronise but don’t mostly because of the questionable interactions, the staff that treats you like a secondary citizen and the utter disregard for any sort of service offering. Turns out, that now Air India will give you (or not) all this and serve it up with a giant dollop of patriotism. Yes, even when you’re 37000 feet in the air, the rampant patriotism must not take a backseat.

News is just in that Air India’s crew is going to say “Jai Hind” after every flight announcement “with much fervor” from now on, stated an advisory. “With immediate effect, all (crew) are required to announce ‘Jai Hind’ at the end of every announcement after a slight pause and much fervour,” the advisory said.

And we are amused. First of all, how much of a pause is slight? Is this going to be counted down to seconds? What if the pause is too long? Too short? The mind is blown. Then, of course, there’s the much fervour bit. How much fervour are the crew members expected to drum up? Are we thinking cinema-hall-national-anthem-level sort of fervour? Or the armchair-activist-social-media-instigator level? Won’t it be weird to say ‘Jai Hind’ after announcing how the passengers can’t use the bathroom? The mind is boggled.

We are all for a show of patriotism but to bung a ‘Jai Hind’ after every announcement is a bit much, even for the most nation-loving people amongst us. Let’s take this down a notch?

Seen it all?

We’ve got more!
