“Let Muslim Girls Wear Hijab, Others Can Wear Bikinis”, Says AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi On SC’s Split Verdict On Hijab Ban

The Karnatak hijab row sparked a huge debate in the country over whether Muslim girls should be allowed to wear headscarves in the classrooms or not. The matter started in Udipi’s Pre-University college which is run by the government when some Muslim girls who were wearing hijab were not allowed to sit through their classes because they were wearing a hijab. The issue had to be taken to the Supreme Court of India where a three-judge bench gave a split verdict over the issue. Recently, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s comments further seemed to have escalated the issue. At a gathering in Hyderabad, Owaisi made a comment on the choice of women wearing bikinis.
Asaduddin Owaisi shared the clip of him saying this at a gathering at Golconda Fort. He said when girls wear a hijab, they just cover their heads and not their intelligence. He further went on to question if wearing the headscarf shows the backwardness of Muslims. He also went on to question why the Central government does not want Muslim girls to wear the hijab. And further he went on to ask if not the hijab, then should they start wearing a bikini.
Continuing on the bikini comment, he said that women can wear that, too, if they want. Asaduddin Owaisi also went on to slam the government for curbing Muslim girls’ choice for wearing the hijab. He said that they should be allowed to wear whatever they want. Furthermore, he stressed the unity factor and said that how will people live in peace and unity if they cannot understand each other?

Owaisi shared the video with the caption, “India is the same country for whose freedom our ancestors laid their lives and today, the same country questions why our daughters cannot wear the hijab?”

Wearing the hijab should be made a personal choice and not a legal obligation.
