After Raping Her For Months; Father And Son Sell Woman For Rs.60,000

Since the Covid-19 pandemic has begun, the cases of violence over women have increased in India. It’s so bad, it’s being called the shadow pandemic. In fact, it is safe to say that rape cases across the country have almost doubled over the past year. The frustration and anxiety have further fueled the violence against women. And what is saddening that most of these rapes, trafficking, domestic violence, etc. cases are not even reported to the police. This is true for most parts of the country – especially the north.

Recently in Bhopal, a father and son allegedly kept a 27-year-old woman in captivity for months – raping her before they sold her off to a random stranger for Rs. 60,000. This incident took place in the Ratibad area of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

After raping the woman for months on end, the duo (father and son) took money from a Vidisha resident who planned to marry her. However, before the wedding could take place, the police got information about the wedding and when they raided the place, they found the woman and rescued her. While the father and son are yet to be arrested.

According to a police investigation, six months ago the woman’s husband had been arrested and sent to judicial custody. This is why she was out looking for a job when she met Ravi (the accused) who promised her a job. But instead, he took her to a rented apartment and raped her, and soon Ramesh (the other accused) joined in. They both continued raping her over a span of months until they struck a deal with Sarman Prajapati for Rs. 60,000.  The violence continued for months.

The father and son, after raping the woman for months on end promised Sarman Prajapati to get him married off to her. And as per the SHO Ratibad Police Station, a forgery case has been filed. The SHO said that “The victim in her statement has said that she was raped by the father-son duo before they attempted to sell her off. Everyone related to the case is being questioned, and we are hopeful that the two main accused would be arrested soon. Relevant sections of the IPC for human trafficking and rape would be added to the FIR after going through the required procedures.”

It is disturbing and disgusting to know that some men can be so inhumane and how the violence against women continues to escalate.
