Afghan Ambassador To India Compares Women Empowerment Against Afghanistan’s While Congratulating Droupadi Murmu

When we came across the tweet by the envoy, I and my co-worker ended up having a full-fledged conversation over it. According to my colleague, India should not be used as an example of women’s empowerment, however, my views on it are quite different. The Afghan Ambassador made a comparison between the situations of India and Afghanistan and looked through those lenses, our condition is way better. We might not be at the peak of women’s empowerment, but we are slowly progressing. The envoy Farid Mamundzay while congratulating our 15th President Droupadi Murmu also highlighted the stark difference between women’s empowerment in both countries.

We are all aware of the pathetic condition of women in Afghanistan after the Taliban overtake. Afghan women have been devoid of all freedom, even the basic like that of education. On the other hand, India which is a developing country has many problems to deal with in the area of women empowerment, however, a  historic moment like a tribal woman becoming the president of India shows we have potential and we are on the right track. Farid Mamundzay on July 26 took to his Twitter account to first congratulate our Madam president and then wrote that in India, a woman has been elected to hold a high position like that of President whereas the women in Afghanistan are still struggling to get their basic rights. He then went on to state that 10 lakh girls have been banned from pursuing higher secondary education.

In the Twitter thread, Farid Mamundzay went on to say that Afghan women do not even have the right to work, nor can they participate in social and political affairs. He further stated that the condition of Afghan women is degrading every day and many people knew about this for a very long time. Mr. Mamundzay also wrote that an Indian woman president will be an inspiration for the women of his country and will be a ray of hope for them. Such a historic moment in India will definitely be celebrated by Afghanistan, particularly the women.
