Actress Arzoo Govitrikar Has Accused Her Husband Of Domestic Abuse And Filed For Divorce

I once asked my mother how she would react if I ever told her my spouse was abusive. Her answer was a little too violent for my taste. But I had tears in my eyes because not once did she try to teach me that marriage is about compromise or that anything is better than having the tag of being a divorcee. I know a lot of women who have been taught that sustaining a marriage is the most important thing. They’re told that no matter what the circumstances are, it’s a woman’s job to keep her head down and cater to her husband’s every need. But there are a few things problems that can’t be smoothed out. Domestic violence, for instance. This brings me to my point. After years of enduring domestic abuse, Baghban actress Arzoo Govitrikar has finally filed for divorce from her husband Siddharth Sabharwal. We are so happy she took this necessary step.

Arzoo Govitrikar decided to file for divorce from her abusive husband Siddharth Sabharwal after his physical and verbal abuse had become unbearable for her. She claims that he would beat her senseless and that he also cheated on her. Reportedly, in 2019, Arzoo had even filed a domestic abuse complaint against her husband. But she is finally taking this step and removing herself from their toxic marriage.

Talking about the torture and abuse, Arzoo told the media, “Yes, I have filed for divorce. Enough is enough and I am not going to take this lying down anymore. I swallowed my pride; I tried, and I tried my best. But matters came to a head and I couldn’t continue with Siddharth. I had so far not spoken in the media, not even when I was hounded by calls from journalists two years ago. But I will talk today. I want to tell you that he has pulled me by my neck and tried to throw me out of the flat. He has slapped me. He has kicked me in my stomach. There were days when I was beaten up black and blue and I couldn’t come out because I didn’t want my bruises to be seen.”

She further added that her husband, Siddharth, first raised his hand two years into their marriage. After their son was born, the two simply drifted apart and even started sleeping in different rooms. That’s when Arzoo found out that he was having an affair with a Russian woman. She said, “I confronted him about her. I don’t know if they’re together now because he stays separately. Mind you, I have those chats and the CCTV footage of his violence and it would help me to get justice.”

Arzoo has also accused him of severe verbal abuse. She said that he would hurl abuses and casteist slurs at her. Due to this torture, she started experiencing blackouts. It takes a lot of courage to walk out of an abusive marriage and we are extremely proud of Arzoo for standing her own ground. Domestic abuse is not something any woman should take sitting down. No matter what we’ve been taught, it’s never okay.
