According To The Bengal BJP Chief Dilip Ghosh, Women Protesters Are The Reason Our Society Is Deteriorating. Wow, Really?

Do you know how sad it is that now every time one of the politicians makes a derogatory comment against women, no one is even the slightest bit surprised? Every time women are bold, outspoken and fierce our politicians for some reason get very insecure (I am only assuming. What other reason could there be?) and make the most random comments that sometimes are very offensive, and the other times are vile attempts at throwing us off our game. We are so used to them talking BS that now, it just feels like a mosquito buzzing in our ear.

The thing is, 80% of our politicians are men who are uneducated and have never seen a woman in charge (we really know how to pick them, don’t we?). So, when they do, they get all riled up and try and put us “back in our place”. But, that’s okay because how dare women try and climb out of the hole the patriarchal society has dug for us?

The reason I am on this rant today is that we have a fresh case of a prominent politician who thinks women who are on the streets protesting are on drugs. Obviously, my blood is boiling at his disgusting mentality but also, on the other hand, I want to laugh so much because he makes no sense whatsoever.

On International Women’s Day, the BJP chief of Bengal Dilip Ghosh triggered a controversy when he said, “Destructive protests are going on over the past few days. Women are being made to protest under the influence of drugs and are shouting throughout the day. This indicates that they have forgotten culture, can’t differentiate between right and wrong and have lost their sense of decency.”

This came after the Rabindra Bharati University (RBU) controversy which was sparked after women were seen holding obscene words, quotes, and posters at the university’s festival. If we go by Dilip Ghosh’s version of reality, the only reason women chose to protest is that they have forgotten all about our culture where women are meant to be subdued and docile. This makes me think he has never met a modern woman in his entire life.

It doesn’t end here, he goes on to say, “We all need to think where our society is heading. If these women behave like this on the roads, how will the people behave with them? They will become victims of crime.” He further added “The indecent manner in which young women are behaving and campaigning is very unfortunate. I am not blaming anyone. It is a deterioration of the society.”

It is always heartwarming to see how our politicians view the women of our country. Basically, according to Dilip Ghosh, the reason crime against women has become so rampant is because young women have become bolder and are standing for their rights. So, we are to be blamed for all the rapes that have been happening and to avoid that we should give up our rights and just sit at home? Is that what he is trying to say?

According to him, our society is deteriorating because women are coming forward, I can’t believe people like him have been elected to represent us. This man needs a reality check because I have a major feeling, he is the one on drugs.

This isn’t even the first time Dilip Ghosh has made such shitty comments. In the past, speaking about the men and women at the Shaheen Bagh protests and the protests in Kolkata he had said they are “uneducated men and women who get biryani purchased with foreign funds,” whatever that means. He went as far as to say the protesters should be “shot like dogs”.

You know it’s okay to have differences in opinions. It is perfectly okay if he believes in the things the protesters are against but saying they should be shot is saying that they have no right to disagree with the government. Last time I checked, we still lived in a democracy.

Next time, I really hope we choose better. Politicians like Dilip Ghosh seem like they are still living in the 1900’s and someone really needs to tell him the world has moved on.
