Abandoned By Her Family, Woman Lived In A Toilet For A Year. She Is Now Being Rehabilitated.

The world is a cruel place for those who are not privileged. Without financial security, they live with uncertainties and fear. One day, they could have a roof over their head and the next, their world could come down crashing, like it happened to a forty five-year-old woman from Kerala, Muruga. Circumstances led her to live in a toilet for an entire year!

Muruga had a roof over her head, her small house which unfortunately collapsed. Her adopted daughter and husband abandoned her and left her to fend for herself. Unable to see any option, she took shelter in a toilet and lived there for a year.

When Muruga’s disheartening tale was covered by a TV channel, Electricity Minister K. Krishnankutty decided to take it upon himself to end her troubles. He made sure she gets moved to a proper house so she can live in sanitary conditions with dignity. “I will see her travails are over forever. She will get proper treatment and also a proper dwelling place,” he told IANS.

Muruga had met with an accident recently and now needs the help of a walker to move around. People around her have been providing her with food. When the local village council officials dropped to visit her, they decided she should be given good treatment at the hospital first.

“I am now very happy that my travails are over as people have come to me seeing my troubled life. I am really thankful to everybody,” Muruga told IANS.

It is really saddening to see her in such a state. How can her daughter and her husband have the heart to abandon her like that? How can they just leave her to live in a toilet? I won’t be able to do that to any human let alone my own family.

I am glad she is finally rescued from these horrifying conditions. Hopefully, the promise will be kept and they will build a small house for her, where she can reside in peace and dignity.
