In a country in which politics is mainly run by the older generation, it is refreshing to see young people being given more opportunities to have their voices heard. One such youngin is A Priyadharshini from CPI(M) who is 21-year-old. She will be the youngest councillor in the city corporation.
A Priyadharshini has won from ward 98 in Central Chennai by a margin of 8,695 votes. She was backed by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party. The candid against her who was from All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam was only able to get 3,408 votes. Priyadharshini is from Villivakkam and her father is an auto-rickshaw driver.
Priyadharshini has promised to provide the ward with good governance. She said that as she herself has faced a lot of the difficulties that the residents face, she really wants to help them as swiftly as possible. “My focus would be in ensuring the resident’s issues are resolved swiftly. Since I have faced all these difficulties,” said Priyadharshini according to TOI. She also mentioned the issues the area has such as clean water, good roads and water stagnation.

Priyadharshini also credited her father saying, “My father is an auto driver and has been in the party for over 20 years. It’s because of him that I had this opportunity,” she said according to The New Indian Express.
It is pretty refreshing to see young people being able to voice their opinions and take action for the good of the country. Considering how the future of the country depends on the youth, it is good to see that people such as A Priyadharshini are given the opportunity to actually show their metal.
