A Policewoman Carried The Body Of A Homeless Man On Her Shoulders For Two Kms, After Nobody Volunteered To Help

As children, all the fairy-tales and fables that we read had very similar themes and taught us the same morals. Good triumphs evil, always be humble, never cry over spilt milk etc etc. One of the biggest things that they taught us though is that a little selflessness goes a long long way. And while a lot of people know this fact, they don’t quite understand it. However, that’s not the case with this policewoman who is being lauded and praised all over social media for her unselfish and altruistic act for a person. She carried the body of an old, unidentified beggar for over two kilometres and also performed his last rites when no one came forward to help. She is such a star!

A woman sub-inspector, Kotturu Sirisha, from Andhra Pradesh has won over social media for carrying the dead body of an unidentified homeless man, on her shoulders, for two kilometres. This goes way beyond the realm of her duties as a policewoman but she did it anyway when no one else volunteered to. Her kindness does not end there. When the locals were of absolutely no help, she also ensured to perform his last rites.

Images and videos of the uniformed Sirisha carrying the body on a makeshift stretcher through the paddy fields of Srikakulam district’s coastal town of Palasa have been going viral since Monday. Sirisha can be seen carrying the front end of the stretcher while one man, who volunteered to help when he saw her trying to carry the body all by herself, carried the back end.

Sirisha belongs to the Kasibugga police in Andhra Pradesh and is a mother of a 12-year-old. On Monday, the police received a distress call about the death of a homeless person in the fields of Adavikotturu. And hence she reached there with a few constables. Sirisha told TOI, “We noticed the body of an unknown person, aged around 80-years who locals said was a beggar. But bringing the body from the fields to the vehicle was difficult as there was no path to the road. We requested the villagers but no one came forward.”

It took them around 25 mins to reach the police vehicle. After that, policewoman Sirisha also helped in the final rites of the man by handing the body over to the Lalitha Charitable Trust. Even though Sirisha is being lauded for her humanitarian act, she believes that she was merely doing her duty. She told TOI, “The dead deserve dignity too. I only did my duty.”

Sirisha deserves an accolade for going out of her way to help people. What she did was truly selfless and heart-warming.
