A Group Of 12 Saree-Clad Women Take Part In A Virtual Run To Commemorate The Birth Anniversary Of Swami Vivekananda

The first time I wore a saree, it was at my graduation ceremony in school. I remember pinning down every bit of the saree and being on alert the entire time because well, who wants a wardrobe malfunction on the last day of school? After that, though, I have never attempted at wearing a saree anywhere. Even though it looks beautiful, sarees are just so tough to handle. However, every time I come across incidents where saree-clad women are pulling off stunts or, in this case, participating in a virtual run, I am inspired. 12 women from Pune, wearing traditional sarees, took part in the Vivekananda virtual run. How great is this?

To commemorate the 158th birthday anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, on 12th January, 12 women dressed in traditional Nav Vari sarees participated in the fifth virtual run, organised across 158 cities, by Vivekananda Youth Connect Foundation.

Mrunal Inamdar, ambassador of Vivekananda Run, said the three-day (January 10 to 12) virtual run kicked off with much enthusiasm. She organized the saree-run at the Pune University.

Vivekananda Youth Connect Foundation has been organising half-marathons across Mumbai over the last four years on the occasion of Swami Vivekanand’s birth anniversary. Due to the pandemic though, this year’s even had to be cancelled. However, day one of the virtual run saw 12,000 participants. This just amazing.

Dr Rajesh Sarwadnya, founder, Vivekananda Youth Connect Foundation, said the ‘Fit India Movement’, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is a major step towards ensuring the wellbeing of the masses, and especially the youth, who face regular health challenges due to the prevailing modern-day lifestyle.

I really hope that once this pandemic is history, we have more marathons and run like this one.
