9-Year-Old Girl Murdered By Her Mother And Her Step-Father For Insurance

Money is desired by almost everyone and those that say they don’t want it are lying. We have read and seen enough cases, where people have filled, abused, and assaulted other people for money. One of the most common news stories is when we hear families being killed for insurance money and or family wealth. But you think that this is not an every day thing, and insurance money can’t be a reason to take someone’s life. You would be wrong.

The case of the 9-year-old in Ludhiana is one such case. Recently, the 9-year-old girl, Bharti, in Ludhiana was murdered by her own mother and step-father for insurance money. The murder was committed by them to pocket the money from the insurance policy that was taken out in Bharti’s name.

According to the police, Bharti’s mother, Pinki, and step-father Narinderpal killed Bharti on 19th June inside a cattle-feed factory in Humbran – where Narinderpal was employed. They lived in the quarters of the factory, when he strangled Bharti in her sleep, while Pinki gagged her with a dupatta.

They seemed to have bought an Rs. 2.5 lakh life insurance policy for the kid in 2018. And according to assistant sub-inspector, Harpal Singh, “The couple had bought a plot for Rs 3 lakh in 2019 and were paying for it in installments. They had already paid Rs 1.49 lakh to the bank but were struggling to pay the remainder. Thus, they came up with the plan to kill Bharti and use the insurance money to settle their dues.”

When the morning came, they took the girl to the hospital claiming that they found her unconscious. It is then that the doctors declared her dead. When speaking to the neighbors, the police found out that the step-father did not like Bharti and would often beat her up, since she was a child of Pinki’s first husband.

The police when asked about the minor’s death, the couple said that it might have been caused due to natural causes. But once the post-mortem reports confirmed strangulation, the couple were interrogated again and it is then that they confessed to have killed the girl to solve their financial conditions and the insurance money would help.

Both, Pinki and Narinderpal, have been booked under Sections 302, 120-B, 182, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. The shocking thing about this is that hold of money, in this case, through insurance, for a middle-class family is so strong that killing one’s own child doesn’t require much thought.
