68-Year-Old Retired Nurse Survives 5 Days Trapped In A Car By Drinking Rain Water

Sometimes we may think that miracles don’t happen but some cases differ just like this one where a 68-year-old retired nurse survived five days in a mangled car. The retired nurse named Lynnel McFarland met with an accident while returning home from a relative’s memorial service. What’s more surprising is that she survived five days only drinking rainwater. Well, sometimes God puts the right miracle in our lives at the right time, which can be life-saving!
On November 18, Lynnel McFarland who is a retired nurse, was returning home when her car, a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse overturned after it slid on some black ice and the car landed in a ditch 100 feet from a highway near Blewett Pass, in Washington State. Luckily, the Mitsubishi lodged between two trees which prevented the car from tumbling farther to a cliff about 40 feet away but it also prevented people in the area from seeing her car. In the accident, she fractured her arm and knee and there was no one to offer her some help. The 68-year-old nurse managed to free herself from the seat belt made a shelter with clothes and plastic bags left in the car. “I had winter boots on the front floorboard. My phone was on the front floorboard,” she said. “I had water bottles on the front floorboard. I couldn’t reach any of them.” Lynnel McFarland said.
Amanda McFarland, her daughter went out looking for her all by herself after coming to know from neighbours that her mother hadn’t returned home. Lynnel used her medical training experience and bandaged her wounds and took shelter in the backseat with clothes and blankets. The 68-year-old nurse spent five days inside in the wrecked car in freezing temperatures. She prayed and drank rainwater to keep herself hydrated.

According to Daily Mail UK, on the fifth day, just minutes after the nurse prayed that she didn’t want to die like this, a state Department of Transportation crew spotted her wrecked car. They found her in a conscious state with signs of hypothermia. The 68-year-old nurse was taken to a hospital where she needed three surgeries and weeks of treatment. Now she is with her daughter, just like she had hoped.
