You know how after a point in life, no filter, Melbourne or Jaipur, looks good enough, no app – makeup plus or even photoshop appeases you- and no amount of holding that breath in voluntarily or by wearing a tummy tucker inside makes you feel sexy enough? When you feel you are completely done with fooling yourself to be a fitter version virtually and would rather be that in reality? Yeah, we feel you.

Perhaps it’s about time we get fit and in shape, and the best way to go about it is as celebrity nutritionist Pooja Makhija suggests, by paying attention to how well you manage your routine. What you eat has a direct impact on your body and skin. And with everything trending including the idea of going on diets, maybe it’s best to know more before you settle on picking one.

  1. Intermittent Fasting

This one involves eating in regular intervals of time. This is where you set a time frame of eating once in eight hours, then fast for the next 16 hours until you feed again. Pooja warns that this one tends to fail very often, the dropout rate is exceptionally high. Pooja also says eating for so long would effect your blood-sugar levels, making it unsustainable and risky to carry out.

  2. Ketogenic Diets

This is the uber-trending Keto diet for short. On this diet, you eat low-carb and high-fat food. Based on the logic of ‘diamond cutting diamond,’ this diet suggests that fat helps in burning fat. And while it’s a flattering thing to hear, indulging in excessive fatty deposit foods have risks of their own such as tiredness and increased heartbeat that are not so wonderful, after all.

  3. Pegan Diets

This one is fairly new to the market and still picking up pace. Also known as the plant-diet, this one has you binging on low fat foods with 25% protein but also limits you from eating dairy, gluten, or your regular carbs. Which gets us to the question, what is left then?

And while all these diets are tried, tested and have a rather limited success rate, Pooja suggests a different diet – The ‘No Diet’ diet. Where you take on the challenge of transforming into a fitter self by exercising regularly, increasing your water intake, avoiding the oily foods and desserts and getting enough hours of sleep. Seems like something we anyway must be doing for a healthier lifestyle, and we agree.

And as for the consistency of keeping up with it is concerned, it is like she says, ‘You can’t go off a diet, if you weren’t on a diet to begin with’.
