Urvashi Rautela Confesses She Got Bruised By Her IIFA 2022 Outfits. Why Are Stars Still Endorsing Style That Requires Suffering?

Often I read stories related to actresses complaining about their red carpet looks, days after making headlines in them. From massive, larger-than-life gowns to tall heels, stars have contributed to building the most unrealistic expectations their fans have about style and beauty. And while their frequent candid confessions about the ballroom gowns and studded chappals, often tell us that fashion ka jalwa is definitely not a halwa, they continue dishing out looks that stay true to maybe glamour but definitely not comfort.

A recent shikaar of this glam-up is actress Urvashi Rautela who confessed the pain of wearing an embellished gown, at the IIFA Awards this year. Well, days after making heads turn at the event, ma’am Rautela has opened up about her struggles with the spectacular beige and ivory gown, designed by Michael Cinco. Featuring a plunging neckline, intricate sequin and embroidery with long cape sleeves adding more volume to the look on day 2, Urvashi also opted for a statement-making orange, embellished dress by Amato Couture for day 1. And while she loved pulling off the two looks, the experience of actually staying in them for the entire event wasn’t all glitter.

Talking about the bruises and pain caused by the silhouettes with Gulf News, Urvashi confessed the outfits resulted in indentations left on her hands, stomach and back, followed by scratches. She further said, “There is so much going on under my dresses at times that I bleed at the end of award ceremonies.”

Well, yeh too hona hi tha. I mean often we witness stars in the most sparkling numbers, but the story behind the silhouette is not-so-pretty. And this isn’t the only time when a star has spoken about the ill effects of sliding into such gorgeous outfits, many including supermodel Bella Hadid, Kim Kardashian, Elle Fanning, and Ariana Grande have been a shikaar of painful fashion. This also brings me to the most recent incident that took the internet by storm. And if y’all have forgotten, then let me take you back to this year’s Met Gala, where Kim Kardashian confessed losing 16 pounds in 3 weeks to fit in Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress. I mean, not only are these instances toxic for the stars who go through the pain, but also for the young minds who read about ’em and come back feeling okay to suffer in the name of style.

While this has been a long-lost debate for many, many years, it’s sad that stars still choose to opt for silhouettes only to conform to the glamour quotient. I mean, it’s 2022, and we should happily say goodbye to these looks, ladies. And as we shed light on the many celebrities who have often represented and endorsed the idea of style over comfort, many have created a misaal for one and all. For instance, remember the moment when Kristen Stewart made an impressive mark on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet in 2018?

Much like Julia Roberts, who pulled off something similar back in 2016 (also in Cannes), Kristen removed her heels and chose to walk barefoot, to advocate against the event’s controversial no-flats policy. Not just her, but our very own Sonam Kapoor has often advocated the idea of staying true to your skin and size instead of running behind trends.

However, the change is yet to arrive, but we can only hope for it to hop in sooner.
