3 Ways You Can Drape A Saree As A Lehenga On Your Wedding Day And Kisi Ko Pata Nai Chalega!

With the onset of October, we all know that Diwali is just days away! But it is not just that this festival of lights is around the corner. The wedding season will also begin by the end of this month which means those who have their wedding dates falling around that time, have their hands full with shopping and curating outfits for their big day! The raging trend these days is to wear a lehenga on your wedding day. There are so many brands and designers even the local ones who make some amazing lehengas suited for the bridal occasion. But if you want to deviate from the trend of wearing lehengas and want to opt for a saree, you can do that, too!

Sarees look just as graceful and elegant if you know how to drape them the right way! As someone who is getting married next month, let me tell you I am going to be one of those brides who is going to ditch the traditional lehenga and opt for a saree for my D-Day. If you are thinking of treading down the same path, here are some of the ways you can drape a saree on your wedding day to make it look like a lehenga. This will kill two birds with one stone – one, the look created will look like you have worn a lehenga and two, you can wear those sarees in the future as well!

Convert the saree into the skirt of the lehenga

This one is one of the most beautiful ways to convert a saree into a lehenga. Purchase a saree with thick or embellished lace on its border and you can use this one as a skirt. All you have to do is ask your makeup and dresser for the day to wrap the saree around your waist in box pleats. Wrap the whole nine yards as the box pleats all around your waist, including the pallu. Viola, your skirt is ready! You can use a heavy dupatta to wear over your head, and you’re outfit-ready to get married!

Use one saree as a lehenga and dupatta

After you are done draping the saree as box pleats, leave a little more part of the pallu out of the pleats. Now, like draping a normal Hindi-style saree, take the pallu part of the saree from the front, pleat it and pin it over the opposite shoulder. Tadaaa! You’re all set to rock your wedding day! See the above video for a tutorial.

Drape the saree as a lehenga and use its pallu as a dupatta

The trick in turning a saree into a lehenga is to drape the saree all around your waist in box pleats. This method is common in every drape. In this method, you drape the saree in box pleats around your waist while leaving the pallu out. Then, taking the pallu part from behind over your shoulder, you can pin it there. And you’re done! This look will appear as if you are wearing a chaniya choli!
