Sarah Jessica Parker’s Armani Ensemble For ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ Premiere Reminds Internet Of Salwars And South Delhi Girls

Sarah Jessica Parker’s Armani Ensemble For ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ Premiere Reminds Internet Of Salwars And South Delhi Girls

Actress Sarah Jessica Parker is reprising one of her popular roles and returning with the second instalment of her fantasy/horror film–Hocus Pocus. And for the premiere of the same, SJP arrived with her husband–Matthew Broderick, and daughters–Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta Elwell. For a vibrantly purple carpet, SJP made sure to twin in a subtle lilac set from Giorgio Armani Privé Fall 2023 collection. Showcased at this year’s Paris haute couture fashion week, the new range of designs highlighted the idea of escapism.

A piece from the collection, as worn by SJP, was a digital printed jacket, teamed with loosely pleated trousers. As a part of the runway showcase, the look incorporated three-colour tones of the pink family, painting the jacket with shaded flowers. The front opening exhibited a statement overlay of sequin work and two-front pocket designs. SJP further completed the look with fuchsia pink heels and an electric blue clutch. While fans loved this power-packed look on SJP, one thing that surprised her Indian followers was her Armani ensemble’s uncanny resemblance with India’s classic salwar and kurta. Hell, yes!

Matching the silhouette style and structure of India’s traditional short kurta, and a slightly-roomy pair of trousers, that famously are known as salwars, SJP again found love from her Indian fans, after her recent experiments with the Falguni Shane Peacock Lehenga. As soon as the picture arrived on our Instagram feeds, many came running to the comments section to enquire about SJP’s rather, Indo-ethnic choice. Take a look at some of these reactions.

While some appreciated the Sex And The City alum’s pick for the evening, some others talked about cultural appropriation with respect to the Armani Fall 2022-23 collection. I mean, neither is it the first time, that designers in the west have taken inspiration from India’s rich clothing culture nor is it the only time SJP has dressed up in an Indian style. The actress previously opted for a Falguni Shane Peacock lehenga for the reprised version of her iconic sitcom–Sex And The City. Even then, SJP found herself in the midst of hate and trolling for introducing her lehenga as a saree. But nevertheless, we would love to see more of India in SJP’s wardrobe.
