Nazanin Boniadi’s Schiaparelli Dress For ‘The Lord Of Rings: The Rings Of Power’ Has A Sauron Connection
The cast of the much-awaited show–The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, flew to New York for the show’s grand premiere. In presence were actors Nazanin Boniadi, Markella Kavenagh, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and Ismael Cruz Cordova, amongst others, who made sure to turn some heads, as they walked the black carpet. In the pictures from the premiere, we spotted these stars, swaying in the theme of the show and wearing an important aspect of their characters. And while we are absolutely in awe of the many spectacular designs that arrived for the cameras, one look that had us deep in thinking was brought by actress Nazanin Boniadi. The British-Iranian actress looked all things gold, in a metallic, foil dress by celebrated Italian label–Schiaparelli.

While you may think what’s so special about this look, I request you to zoom in and appreciate the details. The A-line, loose-fitted number as seen on Nazanin features an intricate overlay of the eye motif. Much like the evil eye, these ink blue and violet coloured eyes come sealed in golden, embroidered sockets, that run throughout the flat-sequin fabric.

What makes the design hold a special place in Nazanin’s premiere night look, is its deep connection with her character–Bronwyn, the village healer of Tirharad. The significance sheds light on Tirharad, which is located in a pre-Sauron Mordor. It further links back to the Eye Of Sauron, a symbol of intimidation. While the Eye Of Sauron resonates with heat, fire and the colour red, Nazanin’s take on the most important aspect of the show, comes in a multitude of colour options, with one resembling the evil eye.

Talking about the latter, the evil eye indeed has become more than just a shield to buri nazar. The initial traces of this motif were found in jewellery boxes, including bracelets, chokers, and neckpieces. And now running many years from then, the motif is a celebrated statement of style being used in everything from clothing prints, footwear bags and even products of home decor. While the importance of this symbol is widely appreciated amongst its wearers, the colourful eyes on Nazanin’s premiere night dress have a deeper and different meaning for The Lord of the Rings fandom.
