Exclusive: Mrunal Thakur On Consciously Carving Her Style, Skipping Cliche Ballroom Gowns, And Tempting Style Trends

Fashion and films have always walked the same path together. And the people who bring this relationship under the spotlight are celebrities. From airport looks, and red carpet events to off-duty style, stars have influenced our shopping decisions at every point. At this year’s FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week, we witnessed these scintillating personalities, headlining the runways for designer creations. From Ananya Panday and Yami Gautam to Mrunal Thakur, stars were everywhere. Last evening, as the glimmering week of fashion, took a step towards its finale, a magnificent showcase by designer–Rajesh Pratap Singh, had the audiences impressed. Walking for the designer’s nostalgia-stitched couture, was actress Mrunal Thakur, who opened the presentation in a unique format. This time, the actress walked the runway with placards in her hands and poetry that delivered the essence of the theme. For Thakur, this opening act was infused with a special perspective put on beauty.

The Jersey star, who started off her career with daily soaps, has now found her beat in the business of both films and fashion. Answering a quick round of questions, Mrunal chatted with us about her latest experiments with her closet, which stand far, far away from the clean cliches. She says, “It is a conscious effort that I am making towards my fashion choices. I want to make sure that, any promotional event shouldn’t look like I’m attending either a wedding or a festival. I want to just go there, promote the film or be at that event like me. It is me weaving the Indian essence. We have so many options to mix and match certain things, so why not.”

She further adds, “You can use a choker and yet wear a pantsuit. I pick up all the things that I love the most and I put them together. Thank you to all the stylists who work really hard, especially Sheefa, Archa and Rahul, who make sure that I look myself.” Even for red carpets, Mrunal has officially said goodbye to ballroom gowns and monumental silhouettes that might never fit her style memo. In fact, that’s the one thing that Thakur swears by when she recommends that “It is not necessary to always wear a gown for the red carpet.”

For Thakur, the idea of carving a space for comfort in her closet is an important decision that she makes. When asked about being guilty of choosing discomfort in the name of fashion, Mrunal mentions, “never, never.”
