The Glorious Return Of Micro Mini Skirt To Spice Up Your Summer. We Are All Hit By Nostalgia And How

The micro mini-skirts have arrived, all thanks to Miu Miu’s latest reign over the trend. Reprising the plaided, pleat silhouette for all the ‘It girls’ out there, micro mini skirts have returned as souvenirs from the early 2000s (actually 1960s, courtesy of its forefathers–the mini skirt) glamming us all up in 2022. While Y2K has been a fashion favourite in the recent past and continues to do so, its growing popularity today reflects its mention in every shopping list.

Reminiscent of the fashion favourite time of Bollywood, if I may mention so, the first image of the micro-mini skirt always accompanies Aishwarya Rai’s sexy, hawt look in the film Dhoom 2, because that probably was my first interaction with the trend that blew me away. Pairing that stunning white skirt with a blue cut-out bodysuit, Aishwarya’s dhoom-dhaam closet included a line-up of plaided skirts and its silly knock-offs residing in my closet, waiting for me to gather some courage to style them. While Aishwarya flagged off the trend and rocked it visibly so, many actresses from Hindi cinema opted for the micro-mini skirts and styled them in their own unique andaaz. Then be it Rani Mukherjee’s version of a micro-skirt in the song “Hey Shona,” Kareena Kapoor’s iconic and evergreen Poo avatar (that didn’t really go that micro) and even her popular 2008 song Chhaliya (uff, that’s one of my favourites), the micro minis appeared in altered avatars and garnered love from one and all.

And now enjoying the iconic status, the Paris Hilton (she should be the brand ambassador of that trend) favourites have re-emerged on every fashion soul’s wish list. And as I scroll through my star-studded Instagram feed, I can’t imagine myself looking that hot in the micro-minis as my favourite celebrities.

I mean, look at Queen Zendaya styling that Miu Miu number, or even Bella Hadid who took the micro-mini for a floral spin.

Talking about the name that unpacks the trend for one and all again, Miu Miu’s SS 22 collection served as the internet’s favourite meal to feed its users with. While, all the popular figures styling 2022’s hottest garment soon turned into a hilarious meme, it further indicates the immense popularity the collection gained. Because good or bad, publicity is publicity. So much so that, a fan instantly weaved an Instagram account dedicated to the set called–Miu Miu Set and we think the micro-skirts are ready to rule again and how. Something that also drew me closer towards the trend was the label’s idea to revise the classic Khakhi, old-school uniform staples into the sexiest attire possible on Earth. And there’s absolutely nothing to complain about when you see dear Nicole Kidman slay one, on the cover of Vanity Fair. The updated version of this trend also stands in contrast to the usual nature of micro skirt which became the youth’s favourite, in early 1960s, all thanks to its god mother- designer Mary Quant, who introduced mini skirts and the style soon came with brackets of comfort labelled by its wearers.

I believe this trend is back only for the good. A nostalgic ride, that you must buy the tickets for, go on and try the trend for yourself. Pair it with crop-tops for some midriff flossing, a bodysuit, opt for longer trench coats, or even sheer black stockings and boots for the starters, because the micro-skirts are going to be all over this Summer.
