Met Gala is returning on the first Monday of May this year, and some exciting details about this annual fashion parade have our hopes very high. As announced by the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, this year celebrities will arrive on the red carpet, paying homage to the legendary late designer– Karl Lagerfeld. Declared by Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour, at the Paris Fashion Week in September 2022, the newly-announced dress code of this year is–In honour of Karl.
With that celebrities will bring their best style game forward, as they honour the German designer, who is one amongst world’s most iconic couturiers. As per the norm, the museum will exhibit a lineup of 150 iconic creations by the designer, alongside some of his original sketches. The stylish tribute will reflect through his iconic colour palette of black and white, with celebrities reminiscing his long career as a director at the biggest designer houses around the globe like–Chanel, Fendi and more. The museum will honour the iconic designer who passed away in February 2019, with display centring a theme that says– Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty. The same will be held for visitors from May 5 to July 16, 2023.
Honouring his impact on the fashion industry, the late designer’s prominent work since the 1950s will help celebrities dress at the prestigious gala. This also means that a lot of vintage fashion will take the spotlight again this year. The theme also received a mixed bag of reactions from celebrities and fans, who pointed out the late designer’s controversial past, especially his hateful comments against women.
Who Are The Co-Chairs?
The event as per tradition will help the museum raise funds and remember the work of the iconic designer. Each year, the Met returns on the first Monday of May, with unique themes and a new set of co-chairs to help Anna Wintour plan the event.
Announcing the special co-chairs of this annual fashion fest, the Met invited singer–Dua Lipa, Swiss tennis player–Roger Federer, screenwriter/actress–Michaela Coel and actress Penélope Cruz. These four names will co-host the event with Anna Wintour and will definitely have some interesting sartorial experiments to present on the red carpet.

The theme for last year by Met was gilded glamour, and many celebrities walked the red carpet in not-so-gilded but glamorous outfits, paying homage to the long-lived history of America in fashion. With that, many celebrities like–Kim Kardashian turned all eyeballs on them, with the iconic Marilyn Monroe gown and some controversial views on weight loss. The previous year, celebrity couple–Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds also soaked in the spotlight by taking the centre stage as co-chairs and probably the most well-dressed guests at fashion’s biggest event.
