Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016: Kallol Datta

Kallol Datta’s show on Day 2 of Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016 gave us the blues — quite literally. Sticking strictly to black and blues, with a few greys here and there, even in the sets, Kallol stuck to his signature anti-fit, exaggerated sleeve aesthetic. Drawing inspiration from cyberspace, Kallol aptly named his collection ‘Lo Res’, and showcased a number of pieces in both prints and solids on a few velvets and other soft, fluid fabrics.

While the makeup was kept simple, glitter lips on the models added some much-needed oomph. Uniform black gladiators made sure the focus was purely on the clothes.

The show undoubtedly had a surreal, dreamy vibe but the complete lack of structure, despite being familiar with Kallol’s style, threw us off a bit. The tie-and-die saris and separates, and the velvet boat-neck asymmetrical blouses, were a few pieces we could pick.

Kallol has always been known to break convention and this time, too, he has not strayed from his reputation. He gives boho-chic a fresh twist and his Lo Res collection simply reiterates that.
